The idea behind Dominate Person is not that you’d cast it on the prey, but that you’d cast it on people to turn them into your “hunting hounds” – it’s the warlock’s version of creating Leashed Terrors. 🙂

I would suggest that Tree Stride replaces Dominate Person. Thematically I think the loss of this spell fits – what fun is the hunt once one’s prey has lost their free will?

I see Oberon as much more mercurial. He’s the Green Lord, and Oran in 4e was the same as him. He’s probably more similar to your “Lord of the Hunt.”

4e was the first time I saw any compelling thematic work in the fey in D&D. 2e’s eladrin (bralani, ghaele, etc.) were cool, but the pieces I saw never fully commited to making them “the fey.”

Heroes of the Feywild – the 4e Essentials book that came out after my last 4e campaign ended – was the centerpiece of 4e’s efforts there, but 5e’s slightly lower-fantasy take works better for my tastes there as well.

I’ve been debating whether I see the Silver Knight as Oberon/Arthur (consort to the Seelie Queen) or a separate figure. I dodge making a statement about it in the article because I think there are a lot of different, compelling ways to configure a setting’s Fey Courts.

It’s interesting to see the Silver Knight interpretation of (Br)Oberon. Fey have never been all that interesting to me, but the design space and use in 5e has me reconsidering my position.

This Grand Jest can really spread havoc. I believe in battle you have to use minis in order to use it effectively, but in any case is the embodiment of chaos.

Nice ideas through and through.

I’d like to see it expanding to other patrons as well. There you go, an other case study for you.

I’ll have to send you my Queen of Air and Darkness I created last year. Far less well thought out, but was still a fun villain to run.
