I could have sworn I'd seen a vampire movie (but I can't remember which one it was) where the heroes had to stake the vampire at a crossroads and then behead it.

Another possible translation to "Besta Fera" is "Beastly Beast" As "fera " and Besta can be soemtimes used as synonims, and the repetion can be a way to say that this Beast is REALLY beastly.

In Brazil there is also the idea of meeting not only the devil but also god in crossroads. There are stories talking about really traffic heavy crossroads where it is said "everyone and god" passed trough, and of patient people waiting there until god Walks buy and talks to them about their grievances.

I liked this article, but I was slightly disapoitned that it focused a bit too much in the encounters and not in the crossroads, their uses and significance itself (i.e.: Why did crossroads aquire this significance)

The crossroads idea is great as my group is about to travel on the road this week. My setting is based on Asian themes, so there's certain areas of the country that are haunted. Maybe a specific crossroad they encounter will have a supernatural force awaiting them.

I don't think I'm aware of any, but the British custom of burying criminals at crossroads (and the idea of Mad Martigan being caged at one) could be a great hook for games. Every crossroad is an opportunity to speak with dead, but it's also a chance to have undead at your throat. The iron of the cages or rails could easily prevent the dead from leaving, building on some folklore of iron as a ghost deterrent.

The image of the intersecting railroads brings to mind the idea that some kinds of crossroads might have power because so many people died there, in a railway disaster. The iron of the rails might or might not wind up influencing the outcome. (There are a lot of modern supernatural-hunter shows I haven't seen. If they've already used this idea, good on 'em.)

Great article!
