I sort of assumed there was an element of differing levels of tribal membership at work. By adventuring with the party and asking the ancestors to protect them, you've "adopted" them as part of the tribe. Obviously, the ancestors will listen to your request as they are kindly and recognize the limitations of those not born to the people. As a paragon of your tribal culture, however, they would flatly deny any request for aid. Stand on your own, as all the true people must!

In the version of xanathar's I have, the wording of arcane shot is once per turn when you fire a magical arrow. My confusion came in w/ the errata to not req. a magic arrow. Now that I've had my copy confirmed as a misprint the confusion is cleared.

"can you use arcane shot effect on an arrow you've made magic using magic arrow feature?"

I'd say yes!

The wording of Arcane Shot is "Once per turn when you fire an arrow".
Compare to Magic Arrow: "Whenever you fire a nonmagical arrow from a shortbow or longbow"

When they wanted a feature (Magic Arrow) to apply only to nonmagical arrows, they specified. Thus, since Arcane Shot only says "arrows", we can asssume it's intended to work with any arrow you fire, even if it's already magical.

Though that does mean Arcane Shot options that add additional damage actually stack with powerful arrows that already do extra magical damage eg. an Arrow of Slaying. Not really a problem, but probably a good reason for the DM to be a bit cautious when awarding magic ammunition as treasure!

There's no question that the new subclasses are flashier than the PHB subclasses, and their abilities are often less situationally-dependent, but I don't necessarily think that the new subclasses are more powerful than the most powerful subclasses from the PHB.

I haven't read much more of XGTE than I've covered in this article, so I'm holding off on deciding whether I think power creep is much at work here. The most I'd say so far is that "correct" play with some PH content is less straightforward than some XGTE content, with the exception of the College of Swords, where I think you need to step back and think hard about whether you want to be a caster or a fighter each round.

looking forward to breakdown of arcane archer. Their arcane shot feature kinda confuses me. text states effects apply when you hit w/ a magic arrow (ammo) and sage advice stated no magic arrow required. Then their magic arrow feature allows you to turn a non magical arrow into a magic one for bypassing nonmagic b/p/s damage resist and immunity w/ it returning to normal after hit or miss.

besides the errata confusion, my ? is can you use arcane shot effect on an arrow you've made magic using magic arrow feature?

Kind off sad that the knife throwing and intimidate flourishes didnt make it in for blades bard.
