In reply to <a href="https://www.tribality.com/2017/12/01/thieves-guilds/#comment-4303">Blake Ryan</a>.

Oh really? Wasn't aware of that. Not a seasoned gamer actually.

What I used was the rivalry between the Harpers and the Zentarim for the control of the Hand of Yartar (the town's Thieves Guild) and ultimately Yartar itself. Add to the mix the Kraken Society (aka the Kraken Cult) and the Waterbaron (with her Lord's Alliance allies) and there you go.

Actually, each settlement has its pros and cons. For instance, a large city can provide more resources but can equally have more dangers.

Recently, there was a cool new setting launched, Ebonclad, for D&D 5e. It is about running Thieves Guild adventure. Good stuff.

There was an RPG Kickstarted a couple of months ago as well, the name currently eludes me.

in the old SSI game Gateway of the Savage Frontier, there was rivalry between Yartar and Tribour, fueled by the Kraken Cult. Smaller towns are great because the stakes are higher since you have less assistance.

Love it. This is exactly what we're playing now, an all-out spy/thieves war set in FR Yartar. Lots of back-stabbing, ambushes, corrupt city guards etc.
