Dungeons & Dragons Brings World of Warcraft to the Tabletop

Wizards of the Coast and Blizzard Entertainment have announced Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft, a new tabletop adaptation of Azeroth scheduled for release on November 17, 2026.

The collaboration is the first release in D&D Universes Beyond, a new product line that adapts settings from outside the traditional Dungeons & Dragons multiverse for the game’s revised Fifth Edition rules. The book is part of D&D’s “Season of Champions” and will allow players to create characters and run campaigns throughout the world of Azeroth.

The 256-page gameplay expansion will include 11 playable species and support concepts drawn from all 13 World of Warcraft classes. Rather than replacing D&D’s existing classes, the adaptation will use new subclasses, spells, equipment, professions, and other character options to recreate familiar Warcraft archetypes.

Nine subclasses are included, six of which are entirely new. Announced examples include the Oath of the Ebon Blade for paladins and a Demon Hunter option for rangers. The book also contains more than 60 spells, over 50 monsters, 26 magic items and artifacts, 23 factions, seven dungeons, and statistics for notable characters from Warcraft history.

Several supporting products are planned, including an Icecrown Citadel map pack and a World of Warcraft Dungeon Master’s screen. Collector-focused bundles will offer alternate Alliance and Horde covers, a murloc miniature, and digital rewards for the World of Warcraft video game. Early access is expected to begin on November 3, ahead of the wider November 17 release.

The crossover was accidentally revealed shortly before Gen Con when Roll20 briefly published a preorder page using the tagline “Your Choices. Your Story. Roll for Azeroth.” The listing was quickly removed, but screenshots circulated before the collaboration was officially announced during the D&D Vision Keynote on July 30, 2026.

Warcraft’s Tabletop History

This is not the first time Warcraft has been adapted as a tabletop roleplaying game.

Sword & Sorcery Studios published Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game in 2003 using rules based on Dungeons & Dragons Third Edition. A revised line titled World of Warcraft: The Roleplaying Game followed in 2005 and introduced additional books covering monsters, magic, factions, locations, and major events from Azeroth.

Those earlier games were licensed products rather than official Dungeons & Dragons settings. The 2026 release represents the first direct collaboration placing World of Warcraft within an official D&D product line.

The announcement also establishes the direction of D&D Universes Beyond. A Star Wars release will follow in 2027, suggesting that Wizards plans to use the line for additional licensed settings while continuing to publish material for established D&D worlds.
