Sword World RPG’s First Official English Release Raises $2 Million in Just 24 Hours

I’m a big fan of JRPG and animes such as Record of Lodoss War and backed this. If you are interested in this campaign, visit their Kickstarter page. Here is the official press release which they sent this out morning.
Kansas City, MO – October 21, 2026 – Mugen Gaming’s English localization of Sword World RPG has already been funded 100 times over in just one day. Sword World is Japan’s oldest and most iconic tabletop role-playing game, and the public knows it. Demand for the English localization has surpassed expectations exponentially.
“The response to our first day of crowdfunding has absolutely blown us away, and we want to first say how grateful we are to everyone who has joined us on this journey,” said Shawn Davidson and Ai Namima-Davidson, Co-Owners of Mugen Gaming. “It would not be possible without the great people working on this project and the amazing members of the Sword World community that supported this game before we ever had the chance to work on it. They truly are special.
“Sword World has a long and meaningful history within the Japanese tabletop RPG community and beyond, and we believe Group SNE’s work deserves to be recognized by a much wider audience,” Shawn and Ai continue. “We’re honored to contribute to this legacy and are committed to bringing the best possible Sword World experience to English-speaking players and introducing them to such an amazing game.”

The crowdfunding campaign features 3 core books including the Core Rulebook which has everything a player needs to create a character and play the game; the Gamemaster’s Guide which has rules specifically meant for GMs to help them run a game successfully and guide them in times of doubt; and last, the Monster Manual that has over 300 creatures and monsters for
parties to fight in their epic adventures! Fans will also find quite a lot of exclusive items in this crowdfund, including:
- Plushies
- Art Prints
- Card Packs (Character, Monster, Armor, Weapon, Spell)
- Battle Maps
- Player Accessories (Premium Dice, Trays, Character Sheets, and more)
- The Sword World Starter Set: Labyrinth that Catches the Stars
Mugen Gaming is working with notable Japanese artists to complete a breathtaking collection of illustrations under the art direction of Shunsuke Nakashige (Solo Leveling, Solo Leveling: ReAwakening and Sword Art Online). NO AI is being used, only human illustrations.
First published in 1989, Sword World RPG was created by Group SNE and quickly became Japan’s most influential tabletop roleplaying game. Built on a distinctive 2d6 system and renowned for its emphasis on teamwork, structured play, and accessible storytelling, Sword World has been a cultural force for over 35 years, inspiring novels, actual-play series, anime adaptations, and video games. More than 10 million copies of Sword World books – including rulebooks, replay books, and tie-in novels – have been sold to date. Mugen Gaming is working very closely with Group SNE to ensure players get the experience that comes closest to the original Japanese version of the game as possible.
“In 1989, thanks to everyone’s support in Japan, Sword World became a hit,” said Hitoshi Yasuda, President of Group SNE. “Every year since then, we continue to release supplements and various works including novels and scenarios. We would like to bring these to everyone if this crowdfunding campaign is successful. I hope you will continue to look forward to our games.”
