Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen Announced for 2027
Wizards of the Coast has announced Greyhawk: Crown of the Witch Queen, a full-length Dungeons & Dragons adventure scheduled for release in late 2027.
The adventure will feature Drelnza, the vampire daughter of the legendary archmage Tasha, also known as Iggwilv. Drelnza is attempting to claim her birthright and ascend as the new Witch Queen of Oerth, placing her at the center of a story described as grand, operatic, and focused on powerful villains.
Concept art shown during the announcement included Castle Greyhawk, the Yatil Mountains, ancient ruins, rivers, and sweeping fantasy landscapes. Wizards described the project as an updated interpretation of classic Greyhawk, preserving the setting’s traditional sword-and-sorcery character while presenting it through modern storytelling and artwork.
Crown of the Witch Queen will be released during D&D’s Season of Swords & Sorcery, which follows the Dark Sun-focused Season of Survival. Wizards has not yet announced the adventure’s level range, page count, creative team, or exact release date.
The adventure is separate from the Greyhawk project being developed through the new D&D Icons line. That project will be led by Luke Gygax and will draw on unfinished work created by his father, Dungeons & Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax. Greyhawk will therefore receive support from at least two major books, although their exact relationship has not been explained.
Drelnza and the Witch Queen
Drelnza first appeared in the 1982 adventure The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth. She was presented as the vampire daughter of Iggwilv, the infamous Witch Queen whose magical experiments, demonology, and political ambitions shaped much of Greyhawk’s history.
Modern Dungeons & Dragons books have increasingly emphasized that Iggwilv and Tasha are different identities used by the same powerful wizard. Tasha has appeared in several recent products, including Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything and The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, where she rules the Feywild domain of Prismeer under the name Zybilna.
Drelnza was recently reintroduced to Fifth Edition through Quests from the Infinite Staircase, which included an updated version of The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth. Her return in Crown of the Witch Queen appears to move her beyond her original role as a dungeon guardian and establish her as a major threat to the wider world.
The new adventure will also continue the broader revival of Greyhawk. The setting returned as the primary campaign example in the revised Dungeon Master’s Guide, while the Legends of Greyhawk organized play campaign has introduced new adventures across the Flanaess. Crown of the Witch Queen will be the first newly announced full-length Greyhawk campaign for the current Dungeons & Dragons rules.
