Dungeons and Dragons Movie Reboot Lands Goosebumps Director

We just covered D&D movie news back in February in another story, that revealed it would be set in the Forgotten Realms and have a Guardians of the Galaxy feel. Last night Tracking Board posted an exclusive that the D&D movie now has a director, Rob Letterman. No casting announcements have been made yet, but I guess we’ll be seeing those sometime soon enough  (Vin Diesel?). The movie apparently has a script by Wrath of the Titans scribe David Leslie Jones too.

Letterman’s past credits include Goosebumps, Monsters Vs. Aliens, and Shark Tale which is a bit of a mixed bag of quality as far as I am concerned and pretty focused on kids stuff. I recently watched Goosebumps with my family and they liked it, but I ended up having a nap – so my ability to review it is pretty limited – but they parts I saw were entertaining and Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 76%. More good news is that Letterman is a director who has worked with animation and special effect monsters and didn’t screw up a beloved franchise (Goosebumps).

From the article:

  • Goosebumps director Rob Letterman is set to direct the highly-anticipated adaptation of the iconic role-playing game DUNGEONS & DRAGONS for Warner Bros., sources close to the Tracking Board have confirmed.
  • Letterman will be working from a script by Wrath of the Titans scribe David Leslie Jones.
  • No casting announcements have been made, but sources say that producers are eyeing a Vin Diesel-type for the film’s lead characters (it’s worth noting that Diesel himself is a professed fan of the game, having played it for over 20 years).
