Dungeons & Dragons Announces Star Wars Crossover for 2027

At Gen Con 2026, Wizards of the Coast revealed that Dungeons & Dragons will cross over into the Star Wars universe in 2027.

The announcement came at the end of the D&D Vision Keynote 2027 on July 30 in Indianapolis. Very few details were shared, but a brief teaser showed Darth Vader alongside the phrase “Season of Rebellion.”

The name and imagery suggest that the release will focus on the Galactic Civil War era, though Wizards has not confirmed its setting, format, or mechanical contents. It is also unclear whether this will be a single campaign book, a larger expansion, a starter set, or a series of connected products.

The project will be part of D&D Universes Beyond, a new crossover line inspired by Magic: The Gathering. The first release in the line will be Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft, scheduled for November 2026.

Adapting Star Wars to D&D could require new rules for species, blasters, droids, starships, lightsabers, and the Force. For now, however, the only confirmed details are the Star Wars crossover, the “Season of Rebellion” title, and its planned 2027 release.

Previous Star Wars Roleplaying Games

This will not be the first Star Wars tabletop roleplaying game published by Wizards of the Coast. The company released the Star Wars Roleplaying Game using the d20 System in 2000, followed by a revised edition in 2002 and Saga Edition in 2007. Wizards allowed its license to expire in 2010.

Fantasy Flight Games later acquired the license and created three compatible roleplaying lines using its narrative dice system: Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, and Force and Destiny. Responsibility for those games later moved to Edge Studio, another company owned by Asmodee.

Edge Studio has reprinted existing Star Wars RPG books but has produced little substantial new material in recent years. Wizards, Edge Studio, and Lucasfilm have not clarified whether the new D&D crossover will affect the future of that existing game line.
