Gen Con Online – New Details

We shared the cancellation of Gen Con 2020 and the announcement of Gen Con Online in a story earlier this month. COVID-19 has put face-to-face gaming on hold for nearly everyone and made attending conventions impossible. More and more people have put their existing in-person games online or created new online groups using Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, and other tools. I guess it won’t be a huge leap to move convention gaming online too. It looks like people will need to decide if they want to try doing Gen Con online this July 30 – August 2. I’m sure this will be an opportunity for many who don’t get a chance to ever (or often) travel to Indy for Gen Con to get a chance to experience the convention. It will be interesting.

This press release was sent out this evening.

Last week, we had the sad duty of announcing the cancellation of Gen Con 2020 in Indianapolis due to health and safety concerns related to COVID-19. However, while we can’t gather in Indianapolis en masse for our favorite four days of the year, we still want to celebrate our shared love of tabletop gaming and geek culture with as many of you as possible.

Gen Con Online is a new virtual convention experience featuring four days of remote gaming, streaming shows, your favorite exhibitors, and more — all from the safety of your devices and the comfort of your favorite quarantine sweatpants!
